Set within Saddam Hussein’s regime, inside his palaces, this four part mini series for the BBC & HBO dramatises the dictators coup to power through to his eventual downfall.
Part 1 :
1979 - 1987, Deputy President Saddam Hussein overthrows the President. Maintains a good relationship with the US & goes to war with Iran. Saddam survives an assassination attempt in Dujail. Saddam begins an affair with Samira, a school teacher.
Part 2 :
1988 -1995, The Hands of Victory Arch is commissioned as a symbol of victory of Iran. Saddam marries his second wife. At OPEC in Geneva Tariq Aziz reveals that Kuwait has been stealing Iraq’s oil. Saddam invades Kuwait. The US organise a coalition to drive out Iraqi forces from Kuwait in the 1st Gulf War.
